Advantages and Disadvantages of Gate, Butterfly, Globe, Ball, and Plug Valves(Part 1)

Aug. 18, 2020

 There are many types of valves, and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Gost Gate Valve Suppliers lists five Valve advantages and disadvantages, including Gate Valve, butterfly Valve, ball Valve, globe Valve and plug Valve, hoping to help you.
A, gate valve,
Gate valve refers to the closing part (gate) along the vertical direction of the channel axis movement of the valve, in the pipeline mainly as a cutting medium, that is, full open or full close use. In general, Cast Iron Gate Valves cannot be used as flow controls.It can be used for low temperature pressure or high temperature and high pressure, and can be made of different valve materials.But the gate valve is generally not used for conveying mud and other media in the pipeline.Advantages:
Small fluid resistance;
(2) Small torque required for opening and closing;
(3) can be used in the media flow in two directions of the loop network management road, that is to say, the flow direction of the medium is not limited;
(4) Fully open, sealing surface by the working medium erosion than the globe valve small;
The shape structure is relatively simple, good manufacturing technology;
Structure length is relatively short.
Disadvantages:
(1) Larger dimensions and opening height, larger space for installation;
(2) in the process of opening and closing, the sealing person relative friction, friction is large, even in the high temperature is easy to cause abrasion phenomenon;
(3) general gate valve have two sealing surface, to give processing, grinding and maintenance increased some difficulties;
Open and close for a long time.
Second, the butterfly valve
Butterfly valve is a disc type opening and closing parts reciprocating rotation about 90° to open, close and regulate the flow of a valve channel.
Advantages:
(1) Simple structure, small volume, light weight, less consumables, do not use in large diameter valves;
(2) fast opening and closing, small flow resistance;
(3) can be used with suspended solid particles of the medium, according to the strength of the sealing surface can also be used in powder and granular media.It is widely used in gas pipeline and water channel of metallurgy, light industry, electric power and petrochemical system.
Disadvantages:
(1) The flow adjustment range is not large, when open up to 30%, the flow will be more than 95%;
(2) Due to the butterfly valve structure and sealing material restrictions, not suitable for high temperature, high pressure pipeline system.General operating temperature below 300℃, PN40;

Cast Iron Butterfly Valve
Cast Iron Butterfly Valve

The sealing performance of cast iron butterfly valve is relatively poor compared with ball Valve and globe Valve, so it is used in places where the seal requirements are not very high.
Stop valve
Globe valves: valves with a shutoff valve (disc) moving along the center line of the seat.Depending on this movement of the disc, the variation of the seat orifice is proportional to the disc travel.Due to the relatively short stem opening or closing stroke of this type of valve, and the very reliable cutting function, and the seat port changes in a direct proportion to the stroke of the disc, is suitable for flow regulation.Therefore, this type of valve is very suitable for cutting or regulating and throttling.
Advantages:
(1) In the opening and closing process, due to the disc and valve body sealing surface friction force is smaller than the gate valve, so wear.
(2) The opening height is generally only 1/4 of the seat channel, so much smaller than the gate valve;
(3) usually in the valve body and disc on only a sealing surface, so the manufacturing process is better, easy to repair;
(4) as a result of its filler is generally asbestos and graphite mixture, so the temperature resistance grade is higher.General steam valves are globe valves.
Disadvantages:
(1) Because the medium through the valve flow direction has changed, so the globe valve minimum resistance is higher than most other types of valves;
(2) due to a long stroke, the opening speed is slower than the ball valve.
